Why does BetterDisplay ask for permission to control my computer?
BetterDisplay requests this permission so it can handle the keyboard’s native brightness and audio keys and route them to the configured displays. Without it, BetterDisplay’s native-key control will not work.
The macOS permission is broader than a brightness-and-volume switch: it allows an authorized app to access and control the Mac through accessibility features. BetterDisplay’s reason for requesting it does not narrow what the operating-system permission grants. Apple explains the scope and how to review or revoke access in Allow accessibility apps to access your Mac.
If you want native-key control, open BetterDisplay Settings > Keyboard and use the permission-setup button to reach the appropriate system controls. After granting access, restart BetterDisplay when its setup panel requests it.
If you do not want to grant access, disable native brightness and audio key control under Settings > Keyboard > Native (Apple) Keyboard Control and use the app’s menu controls instead. You do not need this permission merely to adjust a slider in the menu. See brightness-key troubleshooting for targeting and controller settings once permission is configured.
