Can the menu-bar icon show which favorite resolution I am using?
BetterDisplay does not automatically display a favorite-slot number or resolution text in its menu-bar icon. You can choose a custom SF Symbol, or have a script change that symbol when it switches display modes, but the symbol is an assigned marker rather than a live resolution readout.
For a fixed icon, open Settings > Menu > Menu Bar Icon Options…, set Custom SF Symbol app icon, or use Browse… to select a symbol. For example, a numbered-circle symbol can serve as a reminder of a setup you selected.
With BetterDisplay’s CLI installed, this sets the app icon:
betterdisplaycli set -appMenuIcon=1.circle
Read the configured symbol with:
betterdisplaycli get -appMenuIcon
Reset the custom symbol with:
betterdisplaycli set -appMenuIcon=
A shortcut or script can select a saved favorite using a display-specific command such as the following, then set the chosen icon:
betterdisplaycli set -name="Desk Display" -favoriteMode=1
Replace Desk Display with your display’s name and save the favorite first. Favorite modes require Pro. The favorite and icon commands are separate operations. Check that the intended mode was actually selected before treating the icon as meaningful. Changes made elsewhere do not automatically update the marker, and the icon is global rather than attached to one display.
The update-available icon and the optional sleep-prevention icon can take precedence over your custom symbol. See Menu Bar Icon settings and CLI integration.
