Why does my monitor stay dim or tinted after changing DDC RGB gain?
Check that the configured RGB gain range matches your monitor. If the monitor expects values up to 255 but BetterDisplay maps its sliders to 0–100, even a 100% slider position cannot reach the monitor's full gain range. This can leave the image dim or unbalanced.
DDC changes settings inside the monitor. Quitting BetterDisplay or resetting the app's preferences does not necessarily undo those hardware adjustments, and a monitor's factory reset may not reset every DDC value.
- Open Settings > Displays, select the affected monitor, then open Device Control > DDC Control > Configure Controls….
- Check DDC value range minimum and DDC value range maximum for each RGB gain control. Use the range reported by the monitor or specified for that feature. Some monitors use 0–100, others 0–200 or 0–255. Detect DDC Capabilities… can help when the monitor reports usable ranges.
- With the correct range configured, restore the RGB gain sliders to values appropriate for the monitor's intended picture settings. Check each affected monitor separately.
Do not assume that 0–255 or maximum gain is right for every monitor. Neutral (default) value is BetterDisplay's chosen reference percentage, separate from the raw DDC range. It is not a factory-reset command or a measured calibration. If you need accurate color, retain the monitor's known good settings or use display calibration.
See DDC ranged values for the range and neutral-value settings.
