Why does the open menu move when the menu-bar icon is hidden?

The Standard App Menu follows the position of its menu-bar icon. If a menu-bar utility moves that icon while hiding it, the open menu can move too. Keep the BetterDisplay icon visible while testing whether the hiding rule is responsible.

Temporarily disable the utility's hiding rule for BetterDisplay and reopen the menu. If the movement stops, leave the icon visible or adjust that utility's behavior. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a guarantee that every moving-menu problem comes from an icon hider.

Another option is Settings > Menu > Menu Appearance & Behavior > App menu presentation > Sidebar. Sidebar opens at the screen edge instead of directly below the icon. The picker is available when Control Center-style glass support is available on macOS 26 or later.

See Menu Appearance & Behavior for presentation options. If the icon itself has disappeared, use the missing-icon checklist.
