What can I try if BetterDisplay actions disappear from Shortcuts?
Reinstalling BetterDisplay can help when macOS Shortcuts no longer discovers its actions or says “This action could not be found in this version of Shortcuts.” This is a discovery problem to investigate separately from a display command that appears in Shortcuts but fails when run.
Try restarting the Mac and searching again before reinstalling. An expired Pro trial does not remove BetterDisplay’s action definitions from Shortcuts. Individual actions can still require Pro for the feature they perform. If an action is present but reports a license requirement, its discovery is working.
Quit BetterDisplay, replace the app with a fresh copy from the official download page, then open BetterDisplay and reopen Shortcuts. Search for a BetterDisplay action again before rebuilding a longer Shortcut.
This recovery does not require deleting BetterDisplay preferences or resetting the Mac's display configuration. Reinstallation can refresh discovery, but it is not a guaranteed fix for every missing-action message.
If the actions appear again, test one simple action on a connected display, then test the original Shortcut. If they remain absent, record the exact message and the installed macOS and BetterDisplay versions for troubleshooting. The Shortcuts action catalog lists the actions provided by BetterDisplay and their requirements.
