Regular expression

A regular expression, or regex, is a pattern for finding or testing text. Its syntax can describe alternatives, repetition and groups, making it more expressive than a literal string or filename wildcard. For example, [0-9]+ matches a run of decimal digits. BetterDisplay uses these patterns in Control Integration to extract readback values or recognize Boolean results. Start with the response the device actually returns, then use a pattern that selects the part you need.

A pattern does not change the remote device's response. Script quoting is another layer again: a command must produce the response before the regex can interpret it. The integration page explains which match is used and what happens if the result cannot be parsed.
