Can I assign shortcuts to change my keyboard’s backlight brightness?
Yes. With BetterDisplay Pro and a supported Apple keyboard with adjustable illumination, open Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts…. Under System Colors, assign Increase Apple Keyboard brightness and Decrease Apple Keyboard brightness.
These shortcuts change the keyboard’s illumination. Use ordinary key combinations that do not conflict with shortcuts in other apps. A function key such as F1 is a different input from the brightness media key printed on the same physical key. Whether you need Fn depends on your keyboard’s function-key behavior.
If another app’s keyboard-backlight shortcut conflicts with BetterDisplay’s handling of native display-brightness keys, assigning a separate combination to these actions gives you a direct way to adjust the backlight. This does not guarantee how a third-party app will display its brightness overlay.
See keyboard shortcuts for the related system-appearance actions.
