Why can I still change the resolution when Configuration Protection is enabled?
Configuration Protection allows deliberate changes made in BetterDisplay. When you choose a new resolution using the app's slider or Display Mode menu, the protected value updates to that choice. It helps restore settings after external changes. It does not lock the app's own resolution choices.
To protect your preferred resolution, set it first, then open App Menu > [display] > Configuration Protection and enable Resolution. The saved value appears beneath the switch. Configuration Protection requires Pro and works on connected displays.
A change made through macOS Display settings or another app can trigger restoration of the saved value. BetterDisplay can only restore a mode that remains available, so protection cannot create a missing resolution or guarantee recovery through every connection problem.
You do not need to disable protection before choosing another resolution in BetterDisplay. Turn it off when you want to allow external changes to remain in effect. See Configuration Protection for the other properties you can protect.
