When does a PiP window start automatically?

For a display’s PiP window, Start Automatically opens the saved PiP when BetterDisplay recognizes that source display as newly connected. The source can be a physical display or a virtual screen. Each PiP configuration has its own setting.

Open the source display’s Picture in Picture menu and enable Start Automatically for the PiP you want to open. PiP requires Pro and the relevant screen-capture permission. The option does not connect a virtual screen by itself. Use its association settings if you also want the desktop to connect automatically.

Wake recovery is related but separate. BetterDisplay resumes an active PiP after wake. It can also restart an automatically started PiP whose previous stop was unintentional, while its source is connected. Closing a PiP deliberately leaves it closed while the source stays connected. A later source reconnection can trigger automatic start again.

See Picture in Picture for saving and managing PiP configurations.
