Can I preview a smaller monitor’s desktop on my larger display?

Yes. Create a virtual screen at the desktop resolution you want to try, then display it in a resized Picture in Picture window or stream it into a smaller area of your physical display. This lets you compare workspace and text size, but does not reproduce another monitor’s panel or exact text appearance.

For a 1080p desktop preview, create and connect a 16:9 virtual screen and select 1920 × 1080 LoDPI in its Display Mode menu. Use 2560 × 1440 LoDPI for a 1440p desktop. Choosing HiDPI instead changes the rendering pixel density, so use LoDPI when exploring the workspace of a conventional low-density display.

For a worked comparison, see HiDPI versus LoDPI at the same desktop size.

Open Picture in Picture for the virtual screen and resize the window to the visible area you want to compare. Alternatively, use Stream Virtual Screen to send it to your physical display, then adjust Zoom and Underscan to leave unused borders around the image. Put the windows you are evaluating on the virtual desktop. Picture in Picture and streaming require Pro and Screen Recording permission.

The preview remains an image shown through your existing panel. Resizing it can resample the image’s pixels. Matching a monitor’s pixel count also does not automatically match its physical size. Use it to judge how much content fits and whether a workspace feels comfortable, rather than to predict precisely how sharp another monitor will look.
