Color mode
A display signal has several properties that work together. In BetterDisplay, Color Mode lets you choose a system-supported combination of color encoding, component precision, range and dynamic-range mode.
The labels answer different questions. RGB and YCbCr describe how color components are encoded. Bit depth describes their precision. Chroma subsampling describes how much color detail is sampled, while color range describes the code values used. HDR adds a separate dynamic-range distinction.
Reading the labels together helps you understand what a choice actually changes. It does not install a color profile, and it does not establish the physical color accuracy of the panel. Available combinations depend on the Mac, display and connection.
See Color Mode for the interface and its choices.
