Color space

A color space gives color numbers a defined meaning. When you convert an image or apply a filter, its primaries and transfer characteristics help determine how those numbers should be interpreted. A wider gamut alone does not mean that the image is HDR.

BetterDisplay's filters include labels such as sRGB, Display P3, Rec.709 and Rec.2100 PQ. sRGB is a common computer-image space; Display P3 uses wider-gamut P3 primaries. Rec.709 and Rec.2020 are television color standards with different primaries. Rec.2100 PQ describes an HDR interpretation using the perceptual quantizer transfer function. ITU’s HDR overview

Choose the space expected by the LUT or content you are using. The choice changes the filter's interpretation of the signal; it cannot enlarge the physical panel's gamut.
