DisplayID

Display Identification Data (DisplayID) is a VESA standard for describing a display's identity and capabilities. Its data blocks can describe features such as display timings and other characteristics. DisplayID information can also be carried in EDID extension blocks.

The standard's name is different from a macOS display identifier, such as the numeric CGDirectDisplayID used to address a currently registered display. One describes advertised device information; the other identifies a system display object.

BetterDisplay can retrieve EDID data containing DisplayID blocks and include them in a custom EDID. This does not guarantee that macOS accepts every advertised mode. See Display EDID and VESA's DisplayID overview.
