Display Stream Compression

Display Stream Compression (DSC) reduces the amount of data needed to transport an image over a video connection. VESA designed the standard for low latency and visually lossless output. VESA describes DSC

“Visually lossless” concerns perceived image quality. It does not promise that every encoded value remains mathematically identical, so it is useful to keep those two meanings of lossless separate.

BetterDisplay reports DSC information where macOS exposes it. Compression can affect how a chosen resolution and bit depth fit within the available link bandwidth.

See Individual Display Settings for the related information.
