Frame rate

Frame rate tells you how many video frames are produced or delivered each second. It is measured in frames per second (fps). Apple’s video API defines frame-rate values in fps

For a BetterDisplay stream, the capture-rate limit controls how often new frames may be supplied. A display's refresh rate answers a different question: how often the display updates. A 30 fps stream on a 60 Hz display does not gain 60 different source frames each second simply because the screen refreshes more often.

Treat a capture limit as a ceiling, rather than a guaranteed result. The source content, permissions and system load can all limit the rate actually delivered.

See Video Filters and Stream Transformations for the related stream settings.
