HDCP

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) protects digital entertainment content as it travels over supported digital interfaces. It concerns the protected-content connection, rather than color calibration or the amount of image compression. Digital Content Protection LLC describes the technology

BetterDisplay can show the HDCP protocol versions reported in display information. This tells you about the available report; it does not guarantee that a particular player, streaming service or complete adapter chain will accept protected playback.

HDCP is also separate from DSC. DSC compresses image data, while HDCP concerns its protection in transit. Seeing one does not establish the other.

See Individual Display Settings for the information the app can display.
