Polling
Polling means asking for a device's current value at intervals. It differs from receiving an event that the device sends when a value changes.
A polling interval controls how often requests are made. Shorter intervals can discover changes sooner but also create more requests; a timeout limits how long an individual request waits. Neither setting guarantees that a device reports every change immediately.
BetterDisplay integrations and some network controllers use polling to obtain state. See Control Integration and Events and LG webOS.
