Can BetterDisplay reinitialize a display automatically after sleep?

Yes. On a supported Apple-silicon external-display connection, enable Reinitialize this display on wake under Settings > Displays > [display] > Additional Settings…. Use Reinitialize this display on unlock if unlocking is the event that needs recovery. Both options are off by default.

This is worth testing when Manage Display > Reinitialize Display already restores the picture manually after wake. Reinitialization rebuilds the connection through its EDID configuration and can briefly interrupt the image. If automatic custom EDID application is enabled and available, BetterDisplay first tries that override. It falls back to factory EDID if the custom override is unavailable or cannot be applied.

The operation needs an external display with an accessible framebuffer connection. A visible setting on a built-in screen does not make that screen eligible, and this is not a reconnect action for a BetterDisplay virtual screen.

Test several sleep/wake cycles with the displays and adapters you normally use. Reinitialization can be a recovery step for a misbehaving connection, but a successful recovery does not identify the cause of flicker or guarantee a permanent fix. If it introduces interruptions without helping, turn the automatic option off.

A VMM7100 adapter reset is a separate option that affects all detected VMM7100 adapters. It is not required merely to enable display reinitialization. See Reinitialize Display and VMM7100 wake resets for that distinction.
