Can BetterDisplay reset a VMM7100 HDMI adapter after wake?
Yes. On an Apple silicon Mac, BetterDisplay can reset detected VMM7100 adapters before reinitializing an external display after wake or unlock. This can help a connection that fails to recover, but does not guarantee that every adapter, firmware and TV combination will recover correctly.
- Open Settings > Displays > [display] > Additional Settings….
- Enable Reinitialize this display on wake, or the corresponding unlock option for the event you need.
- Enable Reset all VMM7100 devices before wake or unlock reinitialization for this display. The option appears when reinitialization is enabled and a VMM7100 device is detected, or when the reset preference is already on.
The reset affects all detected VMM7100 devices, not just the adapter serving the selected display. Enable the appropriate reinitialization option for all affected displays to avoid leaving another display needing a manual power cycle. Expect the connection to be interrupted while it recovers.
Resetting the adapter and selecting the final color mode are separate steps. If the desired format becomes available but macOS selects another one, use Color Mode protection. Protection cannot select a mode that the connection does not expose.
See Reinitialize Display for availability. The reset runs for the configured wake or unlock event. It does not continuously monitor the connection’s DSC or color format.
