Adaptive refresh rate
An adaptive refresh rate lets a display vary how often it updates, within a supported range. Variable refresh rate (VRR) can align updates with arriving frames instead of always using one fixed rate. ProMotion is Apple's name for its adaptive display technology.
A displayed range describes available refresh behavior; it does not mean that every frame is presented at the maximum rate. The content, Mac, display and connection all matter. This is separate from the frame rate at which a stream is captured.
See Refresh rate for how display updates differ from captured frames. BetterDisplay identifies available variable modes in Refresh Rate. Apple's refresh-rate guidance explains adaptive choices on supported Apple displays.
