Integer scaling

Integer scaling enlarges pixels by a whole-number factor. At 2×, one source pixel fills a 2-by-2 block; at 3× it fills a 3-by-3 block. This can keep pixel edges hard, though space may remain unused if the destination does not fit the chosen factor. Intel explains integer scaling

BetterDisplay offers Integer Scaling for supported streams and Picture in Picture. There is an important distinction between the name and the setting's exact effect:

This option changes how the stream image is displayed. It does not change the physical monitor's available modes, and it is separate from HiDPI desktop rendering or choosing a display resolution.

The macOS scaling explanation compares fractional scaling and pixel mapping.

See Picture in Picture for the related settings.

Follow the pixel-art enlargement tutorial to prepare a verified LoDPI source and compare a whole-number enlargement with a fractional output size.
