DisplayPort

DisplayPort is a digital interface for carrying display video and related data. It can use a DisplayPort connector or travel over a compatible USB-C connection using DisplayPort Alternate Mode.

The available modes depend on the devices and the entire link. An adapter that converts DisplayPort to HDMI changes the connection path and may affect which display commands reach the monitor.

DisplayPort Configuration Data describes link capabilities and status; EDID describes advertised display information. Neither is the video image itself. See DPCD, EDID, Link bandwidth and VESA's DisplayPort FAQ.
