DisplayLink

The DisplayLink controller lets BetterDisplay communicate with a DisplayLink-attached display through DisplayLink Manager. It enables color-table adjustment support and can relay supported brightness and contrast commands.

Where to find it: Settings > Displays > select a display > Device Control > DisplayLink Attached Display > Configure DisplayLink…. The corresponding Configure… entry in the App Menu opens the same sheet.

Settings are retained per display and controller and take effect as you edit them. The configuration button and sheet settings require the display to be connected.

Controller settings

For a DisplayLink-attached display, BetterDisplay can use DisplayLink Manager to discover the display and relay supported commands. The controller also enables color-table adjustment support. This is a different path from sending DDC directly through a native display connection.

Enable DisplayLink DDC control, experimental and initially off, forwards brightness and contrast requests through the manager. It needs compatible DisplayLink hardware and a compatible DisplayLink Manager version. Changing the preference rebuilds the controller so the available controls update.

Automatic discovery can add or remove the controller as DisplayLink Manager reports its display list. Enable Manual configuration if you want BetterDisplay to retain your chosen assignment instead; it is off by default. The card's Remove button is available only with manual configuration, and removes the assignment rather than uninstalling DisplayLink Manager.

Additional information

This section explains which features require Pro and how availability differs between Mac platforms.

Features requiring Pro license

Changing the automatic DisplayLink discovery preference, configured separately in Displays Overview, requires Pro. The DisplayLink controller settings described here have no separate Pro requirement.

Platform compatibility

The DisplayLink controller is available on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs with compatible DisplayLink hardware and DisplayLink Manager. Indirect DDC is experimental, and its availability does not guarantee display support or current-value readback.
